We tried to visit the US Migration first to get our passports stamped but they just send us to the Canadians. So we had a talk with the Canadian Migration officer that could not belief we are doing this journey. He let us through without checking anything but our passports. He even gave us a tip where to make good pictures. While we set the tripod up for taking our welcome picture another officer came and offered to do the picture for us. After that we went around a duty free shop and made another picture at a different spot. A couple walked by with their dog and explained they were doing the local Facebook page. Once we came to the exit we realized how close to the border we already were and how inconvenient visiting that rest area would be. So we decided against it. Having the villages of Sweet Grass and Coutts in sight we were kind of nervous. The same kind of nervous we always get with a border crossing ahead. The buildings looked quite modern and nice. We went along Interstate 15 towards the Canadian border. Traffic was low so the drivers gave us lots of room to cycle. The surrounding Montana reminded us quite a lot of Patagonia. The yellow fields have quite about the same tone of color than Patagonia had when we were there. The last one is an old rail track and has been converted to a bike trail. It runs pretty flat but has level road crossings every now and then. It is so much quieter on a bike trail. We loved cycling on those trails and are a bit sad that there had not been more trails like this along our way. Mexican officials told us that immigration is closed on bridge I, so we need to go to bridge II. We cycled 4 kilometers to bridge II, found Mexican immigration, got the stamps. Went on the bridge II, got to USA side, went to immigration only to find out that their printer is broken and they can't print the needed permit for us and we should go to bridge I. So we cycled all the way back to bridge I, crossed it (again) and all went well. Despite the happy ending it was quite nerve-wrecking experience. We spent the rest of the week hiding behind blackout curtains and doing nothing at all. Touring full time is a hard job, we work form 5:00 to 23:00 in order to keep everything running smoothly. Cycling is the easiest part, the supporting tasks are the ones that eat up most of our time and energy. There are no weekends, no holidays and often we work overtimes additionally to our 18-hour-workday. The hard work sure pays back in unique, unexpected and quirky ways and couple of days off is a rare, but sometimes needed indulgence. Also, we brought Tulku for her annual vaccination and check up. She got her knees inspected for the first time since her operation in Colombia and turns out that her knees are healthy and patellas are not luxating anymore. We went back to the Pacific side and we'll stay here until the finish. We were cycling through deserterous areas with spectacular canyons and rock formations all week long. Everyday we found something that left us in awe. Additionally, we did some exploring and visited ancient ruins and Shiprock.
