We just don’t like Panama.

It’s not a secret: we don’t like Panama City. And yet we’ve been here so long that we accustomed to it. Here is the list of the things we will miss from Panama City:
1. Maria from the 4th dental office. She is the kindest and sweetest person! Sven will miss how she would tell him the exact time before the drilling began, so he could make his escape. Kira will miss her patience answering our endless questions.
2. Andreas and Anne. Two motocyclists: dad and daughter who also were stuck in Panama City. We will miss our evening chats while waiting for AC to start working.
3. Pancakes in the morning. Our accommodation had unlimited pancakes every morning. So we used it generously.
4. Ciclovia on Sundays. That was the first time we used this weekly event to have fun instead of to rush out of a big city. And fun it was!

Quiz: Leafcutters

Quiz Friday! Here is Sven holding a Leafcutter Ant. These ants are very strong and use their mouths to cut leaves and carry them to their nest. In the photo the ant is holding itself with its mouth. One night we made a mistake and pitched our tent above their ‘highway’. In the morning we woke up and found 3 holes in the tent floor. Question: What was the total size of the holes (in millimeters) cut by leafcutter ants?
Write your guess in the comments! The winner will get a personal kilometer as well as a place in our Hall of Fame (http://on.fb.me/1JAdFTC). The quiz ends on Monday (00:00 GMT). The winner will be announced on Tuesday. The winner will be drawn at random from all the correct entries.

We found IT

We found IT! Now, where should we go next? When we were planning the journey back home in Europe, we planned it until Panama. Why? Because it seemed to be so far away and Kira didn’t even believe that we will ever reach it. But mainly, because there are so many roads, sights and possible routes in North America. South America was easy: you hop on the only highway there is and follow it. And here, in the beginning of the new continent while it’s still narrow, we are facing some serious decision making… What route should we take to Alaska?

Week 99: Still Stuck in Panama City

Week 99. Still stuck in Panama City. Still fixing teeth. Still hoping that Bill Gates would sponsor us. Nevertheless, 99 weeks is a very long time. In fact, we’ve been on the road for so long that we get nostalgic about the places we visited. But the journey is not even over yet! We had a very rough start in Patagonia, but all the hard and sad moments already faded away. Now we’re having a rough patch again. This time we know that soon we will forget all the pain and will remember only those rare good moments we had in Panama City.

Exploring the Jungle

Exploring the jungle! We never got a chance to visit the ‘real’ Amazon jungle in South America. Good thing that Panama is so narrow that we can’t cross it without going through the jungle. On Saturday we visited Metropolitan Park: jungle inside the city’s limits! We’ve seen the Jesus lizards that run on the water surface as well as many flora and fauna that we couldn’t identify.
