Panama
Confusing Language Quirks
“Can we open a shop in your back garden?” this is what we used to ask people back in Patagonia, when we wanted to pitch our tent next to their house. As time passed by our Spanish got better. Nevertheless, in Colombia Kira sent an email to a hotel asking if she can bring 2 bikes and a whore to the room. The hotel owner was very surprised when we came there with a dog. In Panama Sven asked the dentist what kind of narcotic drugs will they give us. The receptionist got frightened and quietly asked “A-a-anesthesia?”.
Week 98 Stuck in Panama City
Week 98. Stuck in Panama City. We have reached Panama City, got lost and got stuck. Our plan was to quickly run errands and leave on Sunday, but now we’re staying in Panama City for next one or two weeks. Why? Some of our deepest nightmares about the dentists came to life and well… let’s just say you will be happy not to know the details. In addition to this we need to vaccinate Tulku, fix bikes, visit post office, etc.

Dentists
Do you know the lightbulb joke? It usually starts like this: “How many germans do you need to change a lightbulb?”. Well, we currently live in this joke. “How many dentists in Panama do you need to fix one tooth?”. Kira ran away from the dentist number 1 (while he was still drilling her tooth) for a good reason. The dentist number 2 looked at that tooth and said it’s badly damaged and now needs to be extracted. So we went to the dentist number 3 who said that it’s still OK and can be fixed and referred her to the dentist number 4 for the procedure. And while filling endless registration questionnaires we found a question at one of the dentist’s offices: ‘Who is financially responsible for the patient?’. “Write Bill Gates”, Sven said.

Quiz: What can Sven cook?
Quiz Friday! Here is Sven cooking dinner. Traveling on budget means a lot of cooking instead of eating at the restaurants. Before the journey Sven’s knowledge of cooking consisted of knowing how to warm things up. After 2 years he became quite a cook! Question: How many different dishes can Sven make by himself from scratch?
Write your guess in the comments! The winner will get a personal kilometer as well as a place in our Hall of Fame (http://on.fb.me/1JAdFTC). The quiz ends on Monday (00:00 GMT). The winner will be announced on Tuesday. The winner will be drawn at random from all the correct entries.
Lost in Panama City
We got lost in Panama City on our arrival. Terribly, terribly lost. Suddenly, we were standing in the middle of 4 lanes motorway. Sven was screaming at Kira that she nearly killed him. Kira was screaming at Sven that it was his responsibility to find the safe way to the hostel. And then we were standing in the most dangerous district of Panama City, still terribly lost. After many more screams and tears we arrived to the hostel. We were battered. Why did we go to Panama City, anyway? Oh, right – to visit the dentist and fix teeth. We went to the dentist and found out that it would cost our new montly budget to fix them. There is a chance that insurance will not cover it. And once more, off we go to reinvent the wheel and find new solutions for unsolvable situations. Yet another life’s flat tire…
Rain in Panama
Just a regular rain in Panama City. See that pick up truck? There is 10 cm of water in his trunk…
Week 97: Crossing a Continent
Week 97. Crossing a continent from East to West (North to South according to the map). We have reached a new continent by sailing boat. We have arrived at the same port as Colombus, when he has reached the land at his 4th voyage. This week we cycle from the Atlantic coast back to the Pacific coast. It feels different here than in South America, but we can’t really grasp what exactly. Are the people different? Is the road different? Are the trees in different shade of green? One thing for sure – here are much more rubbish lying around…
