Week 103. Burned out. We spent two days and two nights laying under a mango tree. No tent, no shower, no toilet. Just laying under a mango tree. During daytime we watched clouds passing by; at night we watched shooting stars (we counted 8 before falling asleep). And then it started to rain, so we moved under a roof. And kept laying, completely burned out. We still are laying. Half of the people tell us ‘Oh, you overcame even worse things, sure you’ll be fine!’, the other half tell us ‘You’re living a dream, it can’t be bad!’. And here we are, still laying. On the bright side, we will walk past that mango tree tonight on our way to watch astronauts in the Soyuz capsel on their way to ISS, so I guess the world is still spinning.

To do lists
Let’s talk about some random things we do. There are some random reoccuring topics we talk about, one of them is space exploration and Mars colonization (yes, very random). It’s a hot topic here in Boundless Biking right now and we are preparing for the sighting of the Soyuz capsule with the astronauts heading to ISS on Wednesday. We will be able to see them on Wednesday and on Thursday from Panama as a tiny dot in the sky at around 5am. The next random thing are ‘To do lists’: we love them, we hate them and we can’t live without them. We have at least 3 different lists everyday to fulfill in order to keep our ‘expedition’ running. So while struggling with our own tasks, we looked at what the astronauts are doing in ISS: https://blogs.nasa.gov/stationreport/2015/08/28/ We were surprised that some of the tasks were very similiar! ‘Check Activation of GoPro camera’ and ‘Finish drying the first pair of gloves’ – what’s on your to do list for today?
Week 102: Panama we hate you
Week 102. Panama, we hate you! Why? Well, there are many reasons. Here is an example of what we’re dealing with on daily basis:
Our dialog with staff of the campsite in the evening:
We: How much is camping per night?
They: 5$ per person per night.
We: Ok, we would like to stay here for 2 nights.
They: Ok.
Our dialog with same staff of same campsite in the morning:
They: Why aren’t you packing your stuff and going? You have to go away now!
We: What? We talked yesterday that we stay here for 2 nights.
They: Yes, you can stay here for second night, but if you want to stay here in the daytime too, then it’s extra 15$ per person. Or get out!
We: What the hell, Panama?
Quiz: Name
Quiz Friday! Here is Sven meeting locals. People in Latin America are very curious and want to know everything about us. It is hard for them to pronounce our names, that’s how Kira became Quira, Tulku became Turcó and Sven… Question: How do most people call Sven in Latin America?
A: Esben
B: Ben
C: Zfen
Write your guess in the comments! The winner will get a personal kilometer as well as a place in our Hall of Fame (http://on.fb.me/1JAdFTC). The quiz ends on Monday (00:00 GMT). The winner will be announced on Tuesday. The winner will be drawn at random from all the correct entries.
Week 101: On the Road again
Week 101. On the road again! Though not in China, but still in Panama. We managed to escape the black hole (aka Panama City): we didn’t get lost this time and the Bridge of Americas wasn’t that hard or scary as people told us. Up next: cycling Panama.
Quiz: Stamps
Quiz Friday! Here is Kira putting stamps on a parcel. Sending packages from Panama is a big deal and panameños take stamps very seriously. Question: How many stamps did we have to put on the box? It weights 3,45 kg and goes to Europe. Write your guess in the comments!
It took us 6 hours to send this one box and the process included searching for the particular brown paper and the particular duct tape; opening and closing the box 4 times; standing in a queue 8 times and licking lots of stamps.
The winner will get a personal kilometer as well as a place in our Hall of Fame (http://on.fb.me/1JAdFTC). The quiz ends on Monday (00:00 GMT). The winner will be announced on Tuesday. The winner will be drawn at random from all the correct entries.
Week 100: Still Stuck in Panama City
Week 100. Still stuck in Panama City. Good news – the Teeth Odyssey is over! We’re still on mashed potato diet, but we hope to get moving soon
We just don’t like Panama.
It’s not a secret: we don’t like Panama City. And yet we’ve been here so long that we accustomed to it. Here is the list of the things we will miss from Panama City:
1. Maria from the 4th dental office. She is the kindest and sweetest person! Sven will miss how she would tell him the exact time before the drilling began, so he could make his escape. Kira will miss her patience answering our endless questions.
2. Andreas and Anne. Two motocyclists: dad and daughter who also were stuck in Panama City. We will miss our evening chats while waiting for AC to start working.
3. Pancakes in the morning. Our accommodation had unlimited pancakes every morning. So we used it generously.
4. Ciclovia on Sundays. That was the first time we used this weekly event to have fun instead of to rush out of a big city. And fun it was!
Life is Good – Coconut Version
You know that life is good when your dog is playing with a coconut.
Quiz: Leafcutters
Quiz Friday! Here is Sven holding a Leafcutter Ant. These ants are very strong and use their mouths to cut leaves and carry them to their nest. In the photo the ant is holding itself with its mouth. One night we made a mistake and pitched our tent above their ‘highway’. In the morning we woke up and found 3 holes in the tent floor. Question: What was the total size of the holes (in millimeters) cut by leafcutter ants?
Write your guess in the comments! The winner will get a personal kilometer as well as a place in our Hall of Fame (http://on.fb.me/1JAdFTC). The quiz ends on Monday (00:00 GMT). The winner will be announced on Tuesday. The winner will be drawn at random from all the correct entries.
